Dating in your thirties

Starting again in your thirties, with a job, maybe children, and less interest in pretending you are twenty-five.

Say that you are in your thirties. People search for their own decade because they want a peer. A profile that hides your age, or uses a photo from a wedding ten years ago, spends the first meeting on a correction. Put the decade in the first lines and use a photo from this year.

Write the life you have. A job, a previous relationship, a child, and a calendar that is already full are ordinary. You do not need a profile written as if you were still at university. "I live in Manchester, I am in my thirties, and I can do a weeknight or a Sunday morning" is easier to answer than an open-ended chat about seeing where things go.

If you are separated or divorced, you can say so without the history. Separated, but not divorced and dating after a divorce are those pages. If you have children at home, say that your time is planned and keep their names off the profile. Keeping this from your children is the practical part. There is a separate guide for single parents.

Be plain about what you want. A relationship, company, or something with no plan to become either are different, and a profile that tries to be all of them is harder to answer. No strings, or friends with benefits is that last one, if it is what you mean.

Only Dating is free to join and free to message, so there is no meter running and no paid boost putting a stranger above the people you want to write to. A few clear messages, a video call, then a public place is still the order. If you are older than this decade, the forties and fifties guide is the next one.
